RELIGIOUS NOTICES. "WHAT MUST 1 DO TO BE SAVED? AND THEY SAID, BELIEVE ON (or in) THE LORD JESUS CHRIST AND THOU SHALT BE SAVED.” (Acts 16.30-31, See also John 3:16.) Many people fall to realise that belief in the Lord Jesus Christ Involves more than a mere profession of belief in Christ; more than merely professing to “accept Jesus Christ as a personal saviour.” Those who truly believe in Christ are those, and those only, who believe what He taught and who obey His commandments. This Christ Himself made perfectly clear as can be seen from Matt. 7:21-27, Luke (1:46-49, John 12:48, John 15.14. Thus if Christ tjiught that "to be saved” wo must believe the Gospel and be baptised (Mark 16:lo-16) it follows that those who say we can be saved WITHOUT believing the Gospel and WITHOUT being baptised simply do not believe in Christ for they oppose and reject His teaching. To such Christ says, “Why call ye Me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say” (Luke 6:40). The Apostle Paul believed in the Lord Jesus Christ and therefore taught, as Christ taught, that salvation depends upon believing the Gospel (Roms. 1:10, 1 Cor. 15: 1-2) and being baptised (Roms. 6:3-6, Gals. 3:27-20, Cols. 2:12). The Gospel which must be believed for salvation is, of course, the Gospel Christ taught, i.e., "The Gospel of the Kingdom of God” (Matt. 4:23, Matt. 9:35, Mark 1:14, Luke 8:1, Luke 4:43) and the baptism which must follow a belief of the Gospel and which Is essential for salvation is’ the baptism Christ appointed and to which New Testament believers sub. mltted, i.e., a bodily immersion in water (Acts 2:37-42, Acts 8:12, Acts 8:36-39, Acts TO, Acts 16:14-15, Acts 16:30-33, Acts 18:8). Thereby believers of the Gospel identify themselves with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Korns. 6:3-0, Col. 2.12), receive a remission of past sins (Acts 2:38, Acts 22:10), are "born again ... of water” (John 3:3-7), pass out of Adam into Christ (1 Cor. 15:22, Gals. 3:27-29), and rise to “walk in newness of life" (Roms. 0:3-6, 2 Cor. 5:17, Cols. 3:1-17, Ephs. 4:17-32, etc.). Reader, you will see from the foregoing that you cannot bo saved unless you believe in Christ and that a belief in Christ logically involves believing and conforming to what He taught.
