POST FOR MR. THORN

The appointment of Mr. J. Thorn, M.P. for Thames, as Parliamentary Under-Sec-retary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, was announeeil yesterday. Mr. Thorn is a former milional president and secretary of Ihe New Zealand Labour Party. Tie was horn in Christchurch. During a visit to England he was associated with the "Clarion’’ and the well-known Scottish Labour paper "The Forward.” On Ids return to the Dominion he was appointed sub-editor of "The Muoriland Worker” and later became editor. He was chairman of the Sea Fisheries Investigation Committee in JOBS. In that year lie was- selected as one of the Government's delegates to the I.J/.0. conference at Geneva.
