Mr. Edward Lueena

'The death is reported from Waugauut of Mr. Edward Uuceuti, aged 75 years. Fourth son ot William Ijiineaster Euccna, an early settler iu the Wairarnpa district-, Mr. Eucenn was born at 1 tgt’OD Bush, near Featherston. He was educateu at Wellington College and M anganiii Collegiate School and joined bis father, who had retired to live at "The Oaks, bouth Road, Hawera. Mr. Eucena played representative Rugby, cricket and po.o lor Taranaki and also won a reputation as an expert cueist. As a rider he won many successes in Taranaki. Mr., Lueena went to Wanganui more than o 0 years ago with his wife, formerly Mit-s Atleen Agnes Coffey, daughter of Ihe well-known Maori interpreter in Hawera. Having owned trotters in his early tiajs, Me. Luceua became a supporter of the B anganui Tro!Lug Club, of which be m«is for many years a steward and guarantor. For his services he was electca a life member and he was also t\ fde meuii’Ci’ of the Wanganui Commercial Club, tinCosmopolitan Club and the Commercial Travellers’ Association. Mr. Lueena s wife predeceased him three years ago. The interment took place at Hawera. Mrs. Lilian Emerson The death occurred at Tauranga on January 12 of Mrs. Lilian Emerson, widow of the late Percy Tivy Emerson. A trained nurse, Mrs. Emerson, at the outbreak of the Great Mar, enlisted yn the New Zealand Army Nursing Service aud she aud her husband sailed fr-Jin New Zealand with the Main Body ot the N.Z.E.F., Lieutenant Emerson being killed in action nt Gallipoli, Ou her return Io New Zealand Mrs. Emerson lived for some years in Cliri.sichurch, being fot a time altaehed to the Health Department. A few years ago she made her home in I.hcre is one daughter, Miss Patricia Emerson, and -Mrs. Amy Binns, Christchurch, is a sister.
