WORK TO BE DONE THERE has always been a need for us New Zealanders to work hard. Our standard of living has always depended on the amount of work we did and on the volume of goods we produced.. Never, however, have we needed to work harder and more intelligently than now. If we are to play a full part in plucking civilisation and freedom and decency as brands from the burning, we must not only produce more heavily per man; we must conserve more heavily per man. Aye, and per woman. We must save harder. The A.M.P. Society’s business is the conservation of the savings of its members for the easement of their old age, and for the care of their families. Today a large proportion of those conserved savings is being turned over to the Nation to lighten its financial burdens. Already the Society has loaned the Government of New Zealand over £6,000,000 and the Australian Commonwealth Government £45,000,000, but it is proudly (and gratefully) adding to these amounts something like £500,000 a month. Money, however, cannot produce munitions, or ships, or aeroplanes, or foodstuffs; it can only assist in the process of turning raw materials into war materials. The principal factor in winning the war will be work: Work, work, work. Hard and intelligent work. All of us must share in that work, according to our capacity. A.M.P.
