The latest bid for the Churchill Book is £120,-from Mr. A. R. Christian, Wellington. This exceeds by £lO the bid telegraphed from Auckland by Mr. JT Barr on behalf of an anonymous bidder. The articles to be offered for patriotic purposes in the Churchill auctions in Wellington, will be on view at Kirkcaldie and Stains’ Tudor rffoms on Monday. As the sale is expected to occupy Tuesday and Wednesday next, the usual Rotary Club luncheon will not. be held in these rooms on Tuesday. A number of the more prominent items which have been donated for sale in Wellington on behalf of the Churchill auctions are listed on the. auction page of this issue. There is Avitle interest in this sale of ’rare books, pictures, manuscripts, antiques and art objects. Already bids have been received from Australia for some of the more important items. Collectors in particular are Avell catered for, though quite a number of the articles will appeal to the general public. A fine catalogue has been published and is on sale. An important function of the sale will be the affixing of the Churchill Seal to items sold. The intention of the Churchill auction committee is that this seal will have the effect of increasing the value of the articles purchased. Every penny raised from the sale is to be given to the AVellington Provincial Patriotic Fund.
