BATTLE AT OASIS

First Italian Version LONDON, Sept. 22. An Italian communique says tiiat on September 16 the Italian garrison at Gialo Oasis, the important caravan route in. the heart of the Libyan Desert, was attacked by a numerically superior British motorized force.

Bitter fighting took place, and the garrison was later supported by the niterventioir of Italian and German aircraft. The fighting continued till yesterday, when Axis motorized columns which had been sent to aid the gamson arrived. The British force then retreated toward the south.
