WOMAN CONVICTED OF THEFT
Doreen Lyleth Gribble, a married nomati, aged 23, was convicted and admitted to probation tor two years In- Mr. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrates Court, Wellington, yesterday, on a charge ot hating stolen £2B in money m M elliugton on Saturday last, the property ol Lenard Kluicr Moore. • j > Moore, in evidence, said that he mid accused, with other persons, had some drinks in a room m an hotel which he had booked. He went out to get something to eat for the party, leaving his overcoat, containing a wallet with some £2R in it in the room. W hen he returned t « the room the wallet was missing. Constable Bevan said that he had found the roll of notes under a corner of the carpet in the room. Accused who conducted hei own defence deu'icd having taken the money, but the magistrate told her that the weicht of evidence was against her. Senior-Sergean* G. J. Paine, who conducted the prosecution, said that all the money, with the exwption ol £4/10/-. had 1 cen recovered. ' An order was made for the return of the mouey found to the owner.
