MOVE OPPOSED

Extension Of Defaulters’ Regulations (By Telegrapli—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, April 23. At a meeting of the council of the University of (Jingo, a letter from Canterbury College stating that tlie governing body had passed a resolution to the effect that the teachers' conscientious objectors and defaulters regulations, 1941, should be amended to make them apply to the teaching staffs of the university colleges, was considered, and tlie following resolution passed: “That this council is opposed to tlie proposal that the Government be requested to extend the application of the regulations under the Teachers’ Conscientious Objectors and Defaulters Regulations Act, 1941, to the University Colleges. It holds with Auckland University College that such extension would be an unjustified infraction of the autonomy of the colleges, and that any cases that may arise can be adequately dealt with under the powers they already possess; that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Government and to the governing bodies of the other colleges.”
