PATRIOTIC GIFTS
Appreciation Of Troops Overseas There is no comparison between the amenities provided for the New Zealand forces overseas in this war and in the war of 1014-18, stated Lieutenant-Colonel L. W. Andrew, V.C., D. 5.0., who lately has returned from the Middle East for duty in the Dominion. He said he had no hesitation in saying that in this war they were being very well catered for, and that the New Zealand patriotic organization was rendering a splendid service meriting the moral and financial backing of everyone.
It had come under his notice, said Colonel Andrew, that there had been some complaints earlier on, and for that reason it gave him pleasure to place on record his appreciation of the patriotic comforts that had been supplied to his men overseas. “They received patriotic parcels in England, -after the Libyan campaign, and after Crete.” he continued. “They seemed to be distributed in our case just at. the right time, and I know that the comforts my men got after Libya and Crete bucked them up tremendously. Apart from the gift parcels, the New Zealand Forces have 1 been provided this time witli splendid amenities and services out of the patriotic funds. “I have nothing but praise.’ lie concluded, "for the New Zealand patriotic organization, and the service it is giving. My men appreciated it. and the New Zealand Division as a whole appreciates it. No distinction has been made as between Maori and pakeha; in fact, the members of the Maori Battalon have received as opportunity has offered . additional comforts from New Zealand in the form of mutton birds and other delicacies. A good job of work is being done.”
