WELLINGTON TROTS

Splendid Fields For Today’s Meeting PROSPECTS REVIEWED (By Overcheck.) The Wellington Trotting Club’s. meeting of the season will be held today. The fields are of nice size and wen balanced, so keen racing is expected. The track is in good order, and if the weather holds smart times should be the order of the day. . . Betting will be on the win and place basis. The card is as follows AUTUMN HANDICAP, of £200; 3.43 class. One mile anti a halt. Cabin Boy .... scr Lois Axworthy scr Cry Baby ... scr Modern Jewel . scr David Derby .. scr Sunny Jewel .. scr Fulwood ... scr Technique .. scr Kaitake Boy . scr 010 Maid scr Hargood’s Lainaco •••••• A; Pride scr Vera de Oro .. 1Lddy Rescue . scr Watcher Jo Lady Tornado scr A very even field is engaged in the Autumn Handicap and the race should be full of interest. Lady Tornado ran Watcher to a neck at Manawatu, with Lamaco in third position. David Derby has raced consistently and was twice placed at Wellington in February. Voio Maid was twice placed at Waimate last month and she should have become thoroughly acclimatized by now, so something good may be expected of her. Technique is well enough bred to win in this company and may upset others with better records. On the whole most support is likely to be acocrded Volo Maid, David Derby and Lamaco. 12-12— o 1 CARTERTON HANDICAP, of £22a: 0.l class. One mile and a quarter. Certify scr Sir Gaillard •. scr Cheval d’Or ... scr Surrey Park .. scr Dan’s Pride ... scr Wee Jack scr Gay Time scr Knapdale Lass jGlenariff .... scr Mighty 1Marco Polo .. scr Ranger 1Rorqual scr Reservist .... JSafety Pin ... <scr Sure Potts * Silver Flash .. scr The Carterton Handicap has attracted a very even field. Certify and Sir Gaillard raced well on the recent Wast Coast circuit, while Safety Pin and Knapdale Lass have shown distinct promise in their recent outings in the South Island. Of the others Gay Time and Mighty may do best. Reducing it to three, most support may be accorded Knapdale Lass. Safety Pin and Mighty. PALMER HANDICAP, of £300; trotters; 3.31 class. One mile and a half. Amonoa scr Great Mountain 24 Hatrack scr Allie Audubon . 3b Jimmy Drusus 12 Te Kahu • ••• 36 Manian 12 Mah Jong .... 4b Smooger 12 Margin •Ten useful horses are due to contest the Palmer Handicap in which Jimmy Drusus, Te Kahu, Mali Jong, and Margin have the best form. At New Brighton in February Margin won from Jimmy Drusu.s, the latter receiving 36yds.; now there is 72yds. between them. At Addington recently Margin won from Mah Jong, who was in receipt of 24yds. Te Kahu finished third, to Margin and Ganton at Addington the first day, and should Ibe all the better for the racing he then had. Favourites may be Mah Jong, 'Jimmy Drusus and Te Kahu. WELLINGTON TROTTING ; CUP. of £6OO ; 4.30 class. Two miles. Foremost Bronze Eagle .. 12 junior scr Dark Hazard .. 12 Jackaranda .. s cr Uenuku 1~ Lady Carol ... scr Clockwork .. 24 Our Jewel .... scr Burt Scott has been allowed to forfeit his Cup engagement, -which gives the race a more open appearance. Of the four on scratch Great Blaze reads best to me, for he has been phowing consistent form from the beginning of the season. There is little between the three on 12 yards. Bronze Eagle defeated Dark Hazard over a mile and a quarter at Timaru, and may finish ahead of him today. Uenuku and Clockwork ran first and second in the Auckland Cup, the latter being in receipt of 12 yards; now ho gives away that much. Uenuku registered 2.(1 3-6 over a mile at Addington recently and is evidently very well. Betting should be well distributed, with Bronze Eagle and Uenuku well up in the order of favouritism. 2.18—

EASTBOURNE HANDICAP, of £2OO ; 3.5 class. One mile and a quarter. Balalaika .... scr Lois Axworthy Scr Cabin Boy ... scr Modern Jewel scr Cry Baby ... scr Sandfast scr David Derby . scr Technique ... scr Fulwood scr Volo Maid ... scr Hargood’s Lamaco 12 Pride scr Vera de Oro . 12 Lady Rescue . scr Watcher .... 36 Lady Tornado scr Form displayed earlier in the . day should give a lead to the likely ones in the Eastbourne Handicap. At the time of writing the prospects of David Derby, Volo Maid and Lamaco appeal most. 3.0— HUTT HANDICAP, of £225; 3.38 class. One inlle and a half. Cabin Boy ... scr Safety Pin ... ser Cheval D’Or . scr Silver Flash . ser Dan’s Pride .. scr Sir Gaillard . ser Gay Tjme .... scr Surrey Park . scr Glenarlff scr Watcher scr Hargood’s Wee Jack ... scr Pride scr Knnpdale Lass 12 Lamaco scr Mighty 12 Marco Polo ..ser Ranger 12 Rorqual ser Reservist .... 12 The Hutt Handicap field Is practically the same as that of the Carterton Handicap. Here again tho form displayed In their first outing should throw some light on the chances of the respective candidates. Safety Pin, Knapdale Lass and Gay Time may be preferred. R. A. ARMSTRONG MEMORIAL HANDICAP (trotters), of £309; 4.43 class. Two miles. Ainonos scr Great Mountain 36 Hatrack - ’scr Allie Audubon 48 Jimmy Drusus 24 Te Kahu 48 Manian 24 Mah Jong .... 7Smooger 24 Margin 108 The R. A. Armstrong Memorial is run over two miles and this may prove too far for some of the runners. Two that have proved their ability to stay the distance are Jimmy Drusus and .Mah Jong. 4,24 WAIRARAPA HANDICAP, of £350 ; 2.47 class. One mile and a quarter. Coquette scr Our Peggy .. scr Dark Hazard . scr Row! scr Double Peter scr Burt Scott .. 1Foremost Bronze Eagle 12 Junior scr Great Blaze ... 1Lady Carol ... scr Our Jewel ... 12 There Is no doubt as to what will be favourite for the Walrarapa Handicap it Burt Scott goes to the post, and, barring accidents, he should be returned the winner. Coquette, Double Peter and Row l are fresh horses, and of these the Urstmentloned reads best. Toe order o favouritism may be Burt Scott, Coquette and Great Blaze.
