BULKING OF IMPORTS
Government’s Proposals Opposed (By Telegraph—-Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 17. Opposition to the Government’s proposals for bulking imports to New Zealand was expressed at a meeting of the Auckland Bureau of Importers. The chairman, Mr. E. W. Sinton, said that very little concrete information had been given by the Government concerning the proposal for bulk buying. There appeared to be no justification for it. The information from American sources was contrary to that from the Minister of Supply. The meeting carried a resolution pledging assistance to the Government in the successful prosecution of the war, but viewing with alarm the bulking of imports as a further measure to socialize the import trade of New Zealand. The resolution also urged the Government to appoint an approved business man from outside the Government ranks as controller of supplies, with an advisory committee of experienced business men to assist.
