ANOTHER FUR FACT THE MARMOT A land rodent that burrows into the. earth and lives in colonies, the .Marmot is found in America and Eurasia, the European and Asiatic species being preferred by the furriers Though the fur is not particularly hard wearing, the skins arc very strong and make up into long-wear-ing garments. In its natural state, the skin is unattractive in colour, being a greenbrown running to a yellow on the sides. However, they lend themselves ideally to dyeing, and. because of this; they are used only in a dyed state by furriers. The various modern processes of dyeing enable the furrier to obtain such striking results that .the marmot is made to appeal - very similar to more expensive types of furs, and, so used, they make excellent garments that arc popular in demand.
