Sir Htrrr.v Batterbee, High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, will visit Hamilton on Wednesday. After visiting Auckland he will return to Wellington on April 26.

The Rt. Hou. J. G. Coates, a member of the War Cabinet, paid a brief visit to Taranaki this week. The purpose of his visit was to meet officers of the Home Guard, learn of any difficulties there might be, and see how they could be overcome.

Mr. E. Willcox, secretary of the Christchurch Returned Services’ Association, is visiting Wellington.

Mr. A. McKenzie, vice-chairman of the Auckland division of the National Party, is visiting Wellington.

Mr. R. 11. Beaumont was re-elected chairman and Mr. O. G. A. Horne- vicechairman at the first meeting of th e board of the Wellington Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. F. J. Gwyuiie lias been appointed to the Auckland University College Council as a. representative of the members of the General Assembly resident in the Auckland provincial district.

Commissioner and Airs. J. Evan Smith will leave Wellington tomorrow for Palmerston North, where they will conduct a Sectional Congress of the Salvation Army. They will be accompanied by Colonel ami Mrs. Ebbs and Lieutenant-Colonel 'Smith.

Mr. J. H. Whittaker, a member of the Wellington Free Ambulance Board, was yesterday reported to be, seriously ill. On the motion of the president, Sir Charles Norwood, it was decided to forward to Mr. Whittaker a letter expressing the concern of the members, and their desire for his speedy recovery.
