OIL FROM EELS

Cod-Liver Substitute Eels, long in disfavour because of their destruction of fish and not themselves cared for as a food except by Maoris, may yet serve a useful purpose in providing a source of supply for a cod-liver oil substitute. There may be difficulty in getting cod-liver oil supplies from overseas and alternatives are being considered. Oil derived from eels is one. To assist the Department of Internal Affairs- in getting an estimate of the number of eels running out from various areas, the Wellington Acclimatization Society has been experimenting with eel traps in its district.
