CHANGE IN DEFENCE MINISTRY
Mr. Curtin’s Wider Control
CANBERRA, April 11. A change in the designation of the Department of Defence Co-ordination to the Ministry of Defence is announced. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. Curtin, who has held the portfolio of Minister of Defence Co-ordination, was sworn in ats Minister of Defence by the Governor-General today. The sotting up of this new department will facilitate the higher direction o£ Hie war in the south-west Pacific area . Mr. Curtin pointed out that its funelioiis wiuil.i embrace wider organization for the south-west Pacific area, as the Prime Minister would lie the link between the Government and the supreme commander, who would have operational control of the Australian forces that were placed at hi.s disposal.
