Government House, Wellington, March 7. This afternoon his Excellency tlie Governor-General, attended by Captain H. G. Helmore, inspected the Wellington Squadron of the Air Training Corps. 1 March 8. Their Excellencies the GovernorGeneral and Lady Newall attended Divine service at St. Luke’s Church, Wadestown, this morning. This afternoon his Excellency, . attended by Captain 11. G Helmore. inspected certain units of the Home Guard in the Wellington area. Later in the afternoon his Excellency received Commodore W. E. Parry, Chief of the Naval Staff, and subsequently Air Commodore R. V. Goddard, Chief of the Air Staff. Tlie Rev. J. Newlands, Winton, lias been appointed Moderator of the Southland Presbytery for tlie next six months. Mr. R. E. McLay, director of music at the Hutt Valley Memorial Technical College, has been advised by Trinity College, London, that he has gained the A.Mus.T.C.L. diploma. Mr. R. P. IL Hewat. Invercargill, has been awarded the New Zealand University’s Senior Scholarship in Law for 1942. Mr. Hewat, who also completed his B.A. degree at Otago University last year, is now serving with the Otago Battalion. He was educated at the Southland Boys’ High School and Christ’s College. Mr. P. Burgoync, who has been en-gineer-clerk to the Kaikoura County Council for the last eight years, lias been appointed engineer to the Blenheim Borough Council. Recently Mr. Burgoyne was invited to inspect and report on the drainage system at Blenheim. Before coming to Kaikoura, lie was assistant-engineer on tlie staff of the Christchurch Drainage Board. Mr. H. IV. Kitchingham, Greyinouth, recently celebrated his eightieth birthday, and received congratulations from all parts of the Dominion, particularly from friends in trotting and racing circles. Mr. Kitchingham is a keen follower of trotting and racing, and was a foundation member of the Greymouth Trotting Club. He is the oldest member of the Greymouth Jockey Club, having been associated with it for 62 years. He was for many years president of the Greymouth Trotting Club, with which he has been connected for 50 years, lie lias been a member of the New Zealand Trotting Association for 31 years, and at the present time holds the office of president.
