W.C.T.U. DISTRICT EXECUTIVE

The district executive of the Wellington Women’s Christian Temperance Union met recently' in the Methodist schoolroom, Karori, Mrs. Sired, district president, presiding over a fair attendance of delegates. This time of national crisis was a time to get into communion with God and to make the effort an “all in” one, said Mrs. Perynian. The committee ' reported that the threefold pledge had i been sent to all ministers and Bible class leaders in the Wellington district. It was proposed to hold a W.C.T.U. rally on April 24 in the Taranaki • Street Methodist hall, Mrs. Paterson, Pahiatua, to be the guest speaker. Because of the postponement of the annual convention members were asked to circulate the two special copies of the “White Ribbon” paper.

Garden Party at Nae Nae Today. The annual gai'den party in aid of the Nae Nae Boys’ Home, Lower Hutt, will be held this afternoon in the grounds of the Home. As this is tlie only public appeal held on its behalf, it is hoped that a large gathering will attend. Buses will meet the 1.20 and 2 o'clock trains from Wellington to convey visitors to the Home.

Kindergarten Street Appeal. The Wellington 'Free Kindergarten Association is holding a street day collection on Wednesday, March 11, which will afford the public of 'Wellington an opportunity of helping in this splendid work. In view of the outstanding importance of this work the public is asked to remember that next Wednesday is Kindergarten Day, and to respond generously to the appeal. Donations for this effort from kindergarten wellwishers in city or country will be appreciated. They should be sent direct to the secretary, Free Kindergarten, 19G Taranaki Street, clearly marked “Street Day Effort.”

Shakesperean Women. An unusual performance will be staged in Wellington next week in aid of New Zealand Red Cross funds. Favourite scenes from Shakespeare, excerpts from both comedy and tragedy, will be played by Madame Maria Dronke, and a cast of talented artists, under the title “Shakespeare’s Women.” Costumes and settings will be in keeping with the modern European style of Shakespeare production. Tlie first performance is to take place in tlie Concert Chamber, Wellington Town Hall, next Thursday, March 12, and performances will be staged on the succeeding Friday and Saturday nights.

Woodland green woollen in a soft flannel-like weave is used for a very smartly cut frock finished with a brown zipp fastener and a nut brown belt, of suede and patent leather in big links. The coat which completes the ensemble, is long, with a cleverly cut back and is made of coating with a rough surface exactly matching the coat.
