Sudden Surprise Blow SHIPPING AND DOCKS HAVOC (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY’,. March 4. A United States War Department communique states: “In a sudden surprise attack General MacArthur’s small air force swept over Subig Bay (north of the Batan front), destroying several Japanese vessels. Among the enemy vessels destroyed was one of 12,000, one of 10,000 and one of 8000 tons and two motor-launches of 100 tons each. In addition, many smaller craft were damaged. “Large fires were started in the docks on Alongapo and Grand Islands, and these were followed by many heavy explosions among enemy stores. “There was practically no ground activity in Batan.”
