BINOCULARS FOR ARMED FORCES

National Appeal Response

Between 5009 and 6000 pairs of binoculars have been received at the Army ordnance depot. Trentham, in response to the national appeal launched on January 24. Delivery is taken iu hampers. The binoculars are unpacked ,aud a record taken of the make and maker’s number. An expert examines each pair. Those determined suitable for armed forces use are sent to the ordnance workshops and there stamped with an army number. Every pair, whether given, loaned or sold to the armed forces, is acknowledged. Twenty-seven members of the W.W.S.A. are ( assisting in the ibig task of unpacking', and other tasks involved, at the ordnance depot on receipt of the hampers of binoculars.

About 250 pairs of binoculars and some telescopes have been handed in at the Chief Post Office in Wellington.
