Five Bombers Destroy Nine Fighters ATTACK IN CELEBES LONDON, January 19. It is officially announced in Washington that five American Army bombers on January 17 attacked an enemy flying-field at Manado (one of the first ipoints captured by the Japanese in their invasion of north-east Celebes). After several bombs had been dropped on the field with undertermined results, the planes encountered a formation of Japanese interceptor planes. In the ensuing fight nine enemy planes were shot down. Two of the American bombers are missing, and a third was damaged, with four members of the crew wounded. According to Tokib, the Dutch are still resisting in north-east Celebes.
