SURF LIFE-SAVING

Championships Cancelled

It has been decided, because of present conditions, to cancel the holding, in Wellington of the New Zealand junior and -women’s surf life-saving championships. This decision was arrived at after conferences were held between the’ council of the national organization and the executive committee of the Wellington Surf Association, which body was entrusted with the holding of the championships by the annual general meeting in October last. While it was recognized that the activities of the association were more in the nature of community service rather than of a sporting nature, it was felt by the conference that as so many of the members and officials were busy with national services of various kinds it would be better, for this year at least, to forgo the holding of the championships, thus bringing the aeso, ciation into line with other national or-' ganizatiohs in the matter.
