Further Rise In Advances INCREASE IN DEPOSITS An increase in net overseas funds, a further rise in advances and au increase in deposits are -the main features of the latest returns of the trading banks. The monthly summary of assets and liabilities ns at Monday, November 24, furnished in accordance with the provisions of the Reserve Bank 2kct, shows the following figures in respect of the six banks: —• > LIABILITIES. London funds on November 24 totalled £10,110,743, an increase of £512,084 since October 27. Overseas assets h_eld elsewhere than in London were £2,350,132, a decrease of £369,584. x Totijl overseas funds, Loudon and elsewhere, on November 24, were £12,460,875, a net increase of £142,500. Against these funds were demand and time liabilities amounting to £1,406,580, thus making the banks’ net overseas assets ill, 054,295, compared with £10,821,814 on October 27, an increase of "£232,481. The totals of the trading banks’ overseas funds in respect of New Zealand business, as shown in the monthly returns, compare as follows:—

Inci'ease In Deposits. Demand liabilities on November 24, were £51,325,767, (an increase of £1,732,432. Time liabilities were £29,123,661, a decrease of £110,054. The total of demand and time liabilities was £80,449,428, a net increase of £1,622,378. . - A comparison of the trading banks demand and time liabilities and th© totals of the two is as follows: —

The total of demand and time liabilities elsewhere than in. New Zealand was £1,406,580, a decrease of £89,981. The banks’ excess of assets over liabilities on November 24 was £20,469,162, a decrease of .£712,908. , . Reserve balances of the six banks totalled £8,715,873, a decrease of £446,847. ‘ ; ■ Government securities held by - the banks totalled £23,190,194, a decrease of £31,478. Other securities at £828,2(1 showed an increase of £17,537.

Rise In Advances./ Aggregate advances on November 2-1 were £49,969,223, an increase of £651,934. Aggregate discounts at £181,738 were £39,246 higher. The total of advances and discounts was £50,150,961, an increase of £691,180. . •The excess of demand and time liabilities over aggregate advances and discounts on November 24 was £30,298,467. The ratio of advances and discounts J.o total demand and time liabilities on November 24 was 62.338 per cent., compared with 62.744 per cent, on October 27 and 60.568 per cent, on September 29. The aggregate unexercised overdraft authorities on November 24 amounted to £33,124,021, a decrease of £107,290. The total of advances and discounts and unexercised overdraft authorities was £83,274,982, an 'increase of £583,890. r The active note circulation on November 24 was £18,068,125, a decrease of £182,800.
