RESPONSE TO APPEAL
Bjankets, Pans And Billies For Home Guard Use
Peoples’ thoughtfulness and their generosity in supplying articles needed for the use of Hojne Guardsmen was commented on yesterday by a worker at the Mayoress’ Patriotic Depot- in Wellington, where such goods have been left, following the appeal that was made. All sorts of useful cooking utensils have been' received, many of them very large, a favourable point, as large quantities of food must be P re ' pared and cooked, at one time. Specially welcome 'donations included fine, large aluminiujn and iron saucepans, baking dishes, pans, billies, and even large, biscuit tins that would do admirably for storing bread. Even large bottles have found their place among the articles, it being thought that they might be required for keeping medicines. The mayoress, Mrs. T. C. A. Hislop, had expressed herself as being pleased witli the collection, it was stated. Warm coverings have not been forgotten. Besides* a good response to the appeal for blankets, serviceable quilts have been added. Pieces, of strong suitings obtained from factories were cleverly sewn together by industrious helpers and transformed into neat, warm covers: Goods are still being received. A full complement of workers lias been lousy over the -holiday period, at the depot. Should a state of emergency occur at any time in AVellington, clothing has now been assembled ready for distribution, where needed. The work for the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild is continuing as usual, and a number of cases of clothing for the people of Britain have just been packed.
