HASTY BOMBING

Japanese Over Rabaul 1 CANBERRA, January 7. A communique issued in Canberra today by the Air Minister, Mr. Drakeford, states that in a raid by Japanese aircraft near Rabaul last night slight damage was caused to the R.A.A.F. aerodrome.. No bombs fell in the town area, and there were no casualties. The Japanese made only one highlevel run over the aerodrome, disappearing to the north. R.A.A.F. fighters attempted to intercept them bn' without success.

The enemy aircraft consisted of long range flying-boats similar to those'pre viously engaged in the service of the Japanese air line to Dili in Portuguese Timor.
