BOOKMAKERS FINED

Three persons who pleaded guilty to carrying oil businesses of bookmakers were fined by Mr. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterMr. Stout described the offence of Basil Francis I’ocoek, a barman, of taking bets from people from a hotel bar, as serious. I’ocock was fined £5O and costs. Arthur Henry Douglas Godfrey was fined £lO and costs, and Samuel Geoffrey Fuller, who, when arrested, had in his possession quite a number ot betting papers which, the police claimed, indicated his business was quite a large one, was fined £25 and costs.
