JOINT WAR EFFORT
Tribute By Mr. Duff Cooper SINGAPORE, December 1. Praise for the joint war effort of New Zealand and Australia was given by Mr. Duff Cooper, British Minister <>f Slate, at a Press conference. The only criticism encountered on his visits to the two countries, he said, was from tlie Australians themselves, some of whom declared they were not taking the war seriously. His own impression was that they had no lack of appreciation of what the war meant. Certainly there were many race meetings and people were enjoying themselves, but why shouldn’t they? He was tremendously impressed by the magnitude of Australia’s expansion of production and by the development of new industries in the face of many difficulties. .Mr. Duff Cooper refused to indicate the nature of his report to London, but declared that after conferring witli the Ausiraiian and New Zealand Governments it was found that no changes were necessary in the original draft which had noft' reached London.
