MR. JORDAN’S TOUR
No Grumblers Among Troops
N.Z.E.F. Official News Service. (Received November 22, 7.5 p.m.) CAIRO, November 21.
“There are no grumblers,” said the High Commissioner, Mr. Jordan, after an inspection of the New Zealand camps in the Middle East. He has visited troops in the forward areas, and during the last two days covered the base camps, seeing troops in training, asking them questions about the use of their arms, inspecting living conditions and inquiring into their welfare.
He chatted with individual men, and in his homely, confiding way questioned them and found what they really thought about things. He was agreeably surprised to find expressions of satisfaction with food and living conditions, and was particularly pleased at the cordial relations which apparently existed between the officers and men. At one unit cookhouse Mr. Jordan helped to serve out food. “This tucker is good,” he said. “Better than we had in the last war.” He saw the Kiwi concert party working on their second programme, and was pleased at the high standard of entertainment offered by this unit.
Late on Tuesday afternoon the ladies of the Mandi tent entertained him. "This recreation tent.” he told them, “is one of the finest institutions of its kind I have seen, and on behalf of the people and Government of New Zealand I wish to thank the ladies of Maadi for their untiring looking after the welfare of our soldiers.” Today Mr. Jordan is visiting a Middle'East port.
