INDIA TO RUSSIA
Important New Supply Route Opened
' LONDON, November 17.
News has been revealed of a great new supply route to Russia which has been opened. It runs from India through Baluchistan, the most westerly district of India, adjoining Iran. Already one full-scale trip has been made over the route with a consignment of jute. A second trip is to be made with shellac, and it is expected that a regular service will come into operation in the near future. Over 5000 labourers are now working on the route, and an Iranian auxiliary transport service has been formed to control motor traffic through Iran. The Iranian Government is helping to guard the route. It is stated in New Delhi that thousands of tons of material are pouring into Rusisa by every available channel. Every port in the Persian Gulf is being used for cargoes from America, Australia, India, and Britain. Indian engineers who are experts on harbour works are doubling the capacity of the ports of Iran to carry the traffic.
The main railway through Iran runs from Bandar Shahpur, on the Persian Gulf, to Bandar Guz, on the Caspian Sea, and rolling-stock and locomotives and operating staff are on their way to Iran from India. Australia, Britain, and Hong Kong. By the end of this month it is expected there will be four times the present traffic.
