SERVICE APPEALS
Wellington Board’s New Chairman The appointment of Mr. Martin Luckie as chairman of the N0..4 Armed Forces Appeal Board in Wellington in place of Mr. W. F. Stilwell, S.M., who will soon resume his magisterial duties, was announced on Saturday by the Minister of National Service, Mr. Semple. “I regret very much,” said the Minister, “that it is necessary to make a change in the chairmanship of the board at this stage, but in view of the recent retirements of magistrates an'd the transfer of Mr. Luxford, S.M., to Auckland, the Minister of Justice (Mr. Mason) has asked that Mr. Stilwell should return to the Courts.” The Minister expressed his appreciation of the efficient and sympathetic manner in which the Wellington board had carried through its difficult task under the chairmanship of Mr. Stilwell. In addition to Mr. Luckie’s qualifications as a barrister and solicitor,” continued the Minftter, “he has been chairman of the local manpower committee since it was established, and has, therefore, a very thorough knowledge of the many problems which arise in dealing with appeals against service.”
