NONSENSICAL NIGHTMARE

(Original by Tinkerbell (13), Feilding.)

QNE morning I was minding a tiny w baby for a neighbouring friend. All was quiet in the kitchen except the ticking of the clock, and the singing of the kettle. Looking closer, I noticed that beady little eyes had appeared on the clock’s face. He was looking at me curiously. It seemed that everything else in the room was looking at me. too. With bouncing steps he trotted along the mantelpiece and jumped on to the arm of the chair. “You have been stealing a baby!” cried the armchair, scarlet with rage. “Yes,” chimed in the clock, “you must give it back to us ” “I am sure you could not look after

a baby,” said I indignantly. “We can,” retorted the sideboard. “I shall sing lulla'bies to it,” cried the kettle proudly. “And I shall nurse it in my large, strong arms,” said the armchair. "What about me?” asked the fire. “I shall warm it.” “You haven’t anyone to take It out for walks.” “Yes, we have,” said the pushchair crossly, and he pushed himself ’where everyaue could see him. Suddenly there was a terrific noise outside. Everything scuttled back into its place. A fat old mother pig trotted im “He is my baby,” she declared. With a jump the baby I was holding got off my knee. Gradually he produced,, a tail, a snout, and four legs, till a complete baby pig. With a starr, I woke up, to find the baby asleep in Iris mother’s arms.
