PARAMOUNT THEATRE

Gary Cooper has never had—and may never have again—as fine a role as Mr. Deeds in “Mr. Deeds Goes to Town,” at the Paramount Theatre. When he read his little poem to the girl on the steps of the tenement house and then, in a burst of shyness, scuttled down the steps to., collide with a dustbin, he acted a little gem of a scene—a scene that probably helped to win forthis film the Academy Award of that year. “Mr. Deeds Goes to Town” can stand any amount of revivals. It is one of those pictures that remains as ageless as Mistinguet. It helped bring another star to fame, too: Jean Arthur, who has never looked back since her first big role in "Mr. Deeds.” “It Happened One Night,” the other feature, is a comedy that must remain as one of the masterpieces of the screen. Though Gable looks a little Jess tough than today, and Claudette Colbert's hairdo and clothes are a trifle dated, the settings and the neat, swift dialogue remain as testimony to the genius of Frank Capra.

Picturegoers who are interested in cinema milestones are going to find a lot to interest them in this programme. Others who go to the pictures merely to be entertained are going to consider their money very well spent.
