OLD GIRLS’ DINNER
Queen Margaret College Association The annual dinner of the Queen Margaret College Old Girls’ Association was held in Wellington last night at the Grand Hotel and proved a very happy gathering. There were approximately 70 old girls present, representing all years of the school’s history. Th© guests of honour were Miss I. Wilson, principal of the college, Mrs. O. C. Mazengarb, wife of the president of the Parents’ Association, and Miss L M. Welch, who for many years has acted as honorary auditor to the association.' The tables were attractively decorated with brightly coloured ranunculus, forming two long lines of colour down the centre. In the middle of the head table was a low bowl of powers in the school colours, and on the wall at the back were blue, black and gold streamers. At the conclusion of the dinner, these toasts were proposed, ‘•The King” (Miss I. Wilson), followed by the National Anthem, “The School” (Miss J. Cairney), followed by the school song, “Absent Friends’ (Miss K. Hoby) and after that the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” After dinner, the guests adjourned to the lounge which was decorated with large bowls of blue irises. Here many reminiscences were exchanged, and Miss I. Hirst sang several delightful songs- Later Miss Hirst led informal community singing, many old school songs being revived. Among those present were the Misses Clachan, Vejner, Hirst, members of the staff, and Misses E. Hatch, E. Winstone, K. Hoby, B. Menard, P. Edie, P. Dawson, J. Cairoey, E. Hopkirk, J. Paterson, committee members of the Old Girls’ Association.
