SERGEANT HULME, V.C.

Rotorua Presentations (By Telegraph—Press Association.) ROTORUA, November 12. “I did not win the V.C. It was given me on behalf of the men,” said Sergeant A. C. Huhne, V.C., at a civic reception held in Rotorua this afternoon when presentations in recognition of his services overseas were made by citizens of the town. Sergeant Hulme paid a tribute to the support of his comrades and specially members of the Jlaori Battalion. He would always be able to say at all times that the people at home were carrying on in their efforts to assist those overseas. Presentations were made by the mayoress, Mrs. H. D. Dansey, of a Maori-carved smokers’ stand, a set of pipes and a wallet. Speakers included representatives of the 'borough, council, Returned' Services’ Association and Home Guard.

At a time when some were avoiding their obligations, it was a pleasure to meet a man who had forgotten selfinterest and personal safety, said Jlr. R. 11. Jones, president of the Rotorua branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association.

Sergeant Hulme spent some months in Rotorua sanatorium for treatment of wounds in the shoulder received in Crete.
