Home Secretary’s Powers Of Arrest (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 11. The Government is not prepared to introduce legislation to modify the Home Secretary’s present . personal powers of arrest and detention under the Defence Regulations. The Prime Minister, Mr. Churchill, replying to ar question in the House of Commons in this connexion relating to a recent House of Lords case, stated that such powers had been conferred on the Government by the House, and it was not yet in a sufficiently secure position to abandon them. There would be facilities in the coming session, be added, for discussion of the matter.
