TEST OF EFFICIENCY
Lower Hutt E.P.S. And Other Organizations COMBINED OPERATIONS As a test of their efficiency the works section of the Lower Hutt city E.P.S., the medical unit, and the wardens’ organization yesterday combined to deal with imaginary damage t:> buildings, water and gas mains, and other public services and “casualties” in Lower Hutt. To assist in the operations other organizations such as the Women’s War Service Auxiliary and the boy scouts were drawn on, upward of 400 persons taking,part. The results of the test will be the subject of reports considered at the next meetings of the units operating. The City Council Chambers and the Horticultural Hall served as the heudr quarters for the various units, their activities extending to almost. evety corner of the city. Those in charge were: Works section, .Mr. H. Reynolds Bach; medical unit, Dr, Nash; transport unit, Mr. J. M. Ryan, W.W.S.A., Mrs. J. D. King; women’s transport, Mrs. Ashley Duncan p chief warden, Mr. E. P. Hay ; boy scouts, Mr. Halford. The boy scouts were called on to act as runners, the plan of operations allowing fov damage to the teleDhoue services, The W .S.A., in auui tion to other tasks, provided the ‘cusEvery section of the works unit had personnel in the six districts into which the city of Lower Hutt has been (livided, and all sea areas were patrolled by the wardens’ organization. An excellent test of. the efficiency of all units concerned was provided and the results were stated to be most satisfactory.
