Nominations Close Tonight

Owners and trainers are reminded that nominations for the Wellington Trotting Club's meeting on November 1 close tonight at 8 p.m. The principal events are the Royal Handicap, of £4OO. 3.24 class, one mile and a half, and the Electric Handicap, of £3OO, 2.48 one mile and a quarter. The other events are: Petone Handicap, £175, 3.44 class, one mile and a half, unhoppled trotters; Short Handicap, £175, 3.5 class, one mile and a quarter; Borough Handicap, £250, 4.46 class, two miles; President's Handicap, £2OO, 5.0 class, two miles, unhoppled trotters; Novice Handicap £175, 3.43 class, one mile and a half; Suburban Handicap, £225, 2.5 G class, one mile and a quarter.

Spanish Lad Back. Spanish Lad, who has been out for it long spell, has rejoined F. W. Ellis’s stable to be prepared for Christmas racing. He is reported to be looking in excellent health.

(Arctic Dawn Exercising. Following a spell since June when he was thrown out of work because of suspected unsoundness, Arctic Dawn is now in light exercise on his owner's property at Longbeuch. He is to return to G. Ridgway next month to be prepared foliate summer racing. Hurdle Recruit.

Among the hurdle recruits at Riccarton is the Iliad gelding, Lord Midas, who is said to be showing some ground for encouragement. First For a Year. When Counterlunch won at Dunedin on Monday it was her first success since July of lust year, though she has not done much racing in the meantime. Counterlunch is a half-sister by Iliad to the two-year-old winner, Indian Sign. Both were bred by Beau Vite’s owner. Mr. It. Stewart.
