Moscow And The Vatican RAPPROCHEMENT MOVE (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Received October 5. 6.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, October 4. One of President Roosevelt’s closest and best informed political associates told the United Press that diplomatic developments are shaping toward an alignment of world Roman Catholicism against the Nazis. President Roosevelt is hopeful of a rapprochement between the" Vatican and Moscow, leading to an exchange of diplomats in time to exert world-wide influence against the Axis. Mr. Roosevelt disclosed at his Press conference yesterday that he had asked Mr. Harriman, leader of the United States delegation to the Three-Power Conference at Moscow, to take up the question of religious freedom in Russia. He said that “one man” Government had already plunged the nation into undeclared war. Saying he had been subjected to a smear campaign, Lindbergh declared: “My only motive is.the welfare of my country and my civilization. This is not the life I enjoy. Political life is not my ambition.” It is authoritatively stated in Mexico City that a pact has been concluded between the United States and Mexico, and will be signed on October 9. It also provides for agreement on United States silver purchases and the stabilization of the peso..
