"It is in the interests of the scenic beauties of New Zealand, and the far north in particular, that we save al l we can of our native bush,” said the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Parry, replying yesterday to representatives of the Rangitikei Scenery Preservation and Tree-planting Society requesting Government action to prevent the destruction in sawmill operations of a belt of valuable kauri in the Whangarei district. It was stated that one of the trees threatened was 45 feet in girth and much prized by the residents of the district. Mr. Parry said he would communicate with the Minister in charge of the Forestry Department.
The Hutt Valley Boxing Association will hold an amateur tournament ip the LabourHalf, Petone, on. Monday night.
