EXPRESSES GO NORTH
Resumption Of Railway Services Subject to minor delays due to the conditions created by the heavy rains, full railway services were resumed on the Main Trunk Line last night, three expresses going north over this route. The 3 p.m. train was held up for about two hours at Plimmerton because of more slips and wash-outs developing after its departure from Wellington, but it later resumed its journey, followed by the Limited, which left at 7.15 p.m., and another express which left at 7.40 p.m. Earlier in the day the north-bound Napier express had been sent via the Wairarapa. but the New Plymouth express was sent by the usual route. The south-bound Auckland express due iu Wellington at 7 a.m. yesterday came via the Wairarapa, and was nearly five hours late. Passengers by the southbound Limited, however, were transferred to buses at Paekakarikl. The down Napier train, after being held up for a period at Pukerua Bay, was just over an hour late in reaching Wellington and the New Plymouth express one and three-quarter hours late. Goods traffic, which had been delayed for more than 24 hours, except for urgent dispatches over the Wairarapa lines, was moving north again over the main route last night, but it is expected that all trains will encounter delays in more or less degrees while the abnormal conditions continue. Meanwhile, the Ngaio-Johnsonville line will be closed till tomorrow at the earliest, and probably Monday. There have been numerous slips on this route.
An excursion train with 300 passengers from Auckland is due in Wellington at 9 a.m. today.
