EEL LEGALLY A WILD ANIMAL

(Received October 3, 5.30 p.m.) LONDON, October 2. On the ground that the eel is legally a wild animal and that persons finding eels at large are entitled to take them into safe custody, a Clerkenwell magistrate dismissed the charge against a railway employee of stealing from Euston Station 51bs. of eels valued at 17/0. . The employee found the eels in a space between the permanent way and a platform near the fish dock. The magistrate said: “Maybe accused should not have taken the eels but if you. see an eel wriggling on the highway you certainly are entitled to pick it up and take it away.”
