CHINESE TROOPS IN HOT PURSUIT
Japanese Flight In Hunan LONDON, October 2. The Japanese army is fieeing northward from Changsha, in the Hunan province, and Chinese troops are in hot pursuit. Chungking describes the battle as “the turning point in the Chinese war,” and claims that the Japanese have suffered 40,000 casualties. A Chinese military spokesman said that the Japanese forces in Hunan Province southward of Hankow had not only suffered a severe defeat,* but that 130,000 Japanese, who attempted but failed to take Changsha, were encircled.
