OBITUARY

Mr. F. H. Handley A prominent farmer in the Maxwell district for many years, Mr. F. H. Handley died ou Thursday night, states a “Dominion” Special Service message. He was born in 1879 and was the son of Mrs. and the late Mr. S. G. Handley, St. John’s Hill Wanganui. Mr. Handley was a member of the Waitotara County Council, and served on that body for many years. Because of ill health he recently resigned as a representative of the county on the District Council of Primary Production. At Maxwell, he was chairman of the hall committee, and took a keen interest in the work of St. Mary’s Anglican Church. Mr. Handley is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mesdames F. Birch, Kai Iwi, and E. Brewer, Waitotara, and one son, Lieutenant W. Handley, now serving with the N.Z.E.F. overseas. Mr. W. R. S. Brewer The death has occurred al Auckland of Mr. W. R. S. Brewer, president of the Waverley Racing Club, states a “Dominion” Special Service message. Sou of the late Mr. William Brewer, one of the early settlers in the Waverley district, Mr. Walter Brewer had been identified with the life of Waverley for a very long period. Meets at the “Waihau” homestead were among the most popular on the Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Club’s roster of the season. He bred and raced several horses with success.Mr. Brewer is survived by his wife, and one daughter, Mrs. E. W. Sampson, St. John’s Hill, Wanganui, Dr. W. Beedie The death occurred in Palmerston North yesterday morning of Dr. William Beedie, medical superintendent of the Dannevirke Hospital, states a “Dominion” Special Service message. Born in Banffshire, Scotland, Dr. Beodie came to New Zealand in .1906 and began practice at Kimbolton, where be remained till 1916, when be was appointed medical superintendent to the Dannevirke Public Hospital. He obtained his M.B. and Ch.B. degrees in 1904 and gained his M.D. in. 1912. He was prominent in southern Hawke’s Bay golf circles and was a past master of Rawhiti Masonic Lodge. He is survived by a widow and three daughters, Miss Jean Beedie, Dannevirke, Miss Mollie Beedie, an acting house surgeon at Wellington hospital, Miss Beth Beedie, a masseuse at Napier hospital, and a brother, Mr. John Beedie, Dannevirke.
