Taurangi was improved with her sprint at Levin and ran a fine race under 9.6, pulling up well. . .... The Hastings Stakes resulted in an easy win for Travancore, who is a goodlooking Bulandshar gelding and is likely to win in much better company than that which opposed him today. Another good horse to open his account today was Cheddington, who has done little racing since his first season. He won the maiden event with ridiculous ease and left the impression that he will go on to better company if he keeps sound. He gave P. Atkins his first success as a trainer. L. M. Lewis, rider of Summons, wjio fell at the last fence in the hurdle race, was taken to hospital for observation. There was a good attendance and the totalizator handled £10,685/10/-, against £8654/10/- last year, an increase ot £2031. , Comfortable Win.

Cheddington won his first race when he cantered home in the Imperial Plate. He began well from No. 16 and trailed Social Star to the distance, where he took charge and, with an easy, long-sweeping stride, loped in about four lengths ahead of the field. Cyprine, and Condole, who were with the leading bunch at the home turn, came on to get second and third money with Gay Luxe just, heading the tiring Social Star for fourth. Mount Battock and Siyana were next. Roeon Beats Hacks. Following the two. leaders, Ex-Pupil and Grand Chase, into the straight, Koeon strode to the front at the last turlong in the Otane Handicap and wept on to win very easily with a lot in hand. Grand Chase held off Ex-Pupil lor second and Blandisher, who could not hold his position on the turn, was fourth. Burma, who began slowly, finished fast into fifth place. Murmuring’s Brother. Travancore, a full brother to the highpriced Murmuring, scored a comfortable Win in the Hastings Stakes. He was m charge entering the straight and PMora and Dash Up both tried to pull him 'bi!ck in the last furlong but failed, Travancore scoring by two lengths without being kicked up. Palora finished a little better than Dash Up and Foreign Princess was a poor fourth after fajliug tp. secure a cood early-.position. Pikopikp and Bastik did best of the others. My Girl showed brilliant speed but ran off the course entering the straight. Travancore is a bi- and good-looking gelding and completely overshadowed the others tor class. Red Cat AU The Way. After giving trouble in, No. 1 position at the start, Red Cat got away well in the Spring Handicap. She quickly hit the front'and was never wimung easily bv two le_ngths. Hei stablemate, Taurangi, showed improvement with her Foxton race and finished on well under her big weight to reach second place, uell clear of Halley, who ran an honest racin the wake of the leader throughout. Le Oriko ra a good race to finish a close third, comfng on well at the end, and Callcardine

was fourth aftep assisting Myrna Loy with most of the pace. Gay Gengt and Arabic did best of the others. Malacca was kicked at tbg post and then received a very bad run. > Sprint to Rakahanga.

Saxon Tor tried to win the sprint all the way but half way down the straight he was headed by Burra Sabii, who looked likely to win. However, Rakahanga. who received a. good opening, on the turn, came home very solidly and, catching Che two leaders 109 yards from home, won going away.
