BRITISH OFFENSIVE EXPECTED

Italian Preparations LONDON, October 1. The newspaper “Popolo d’ltalia” says that the Italians are preparing for a big British offensive in North Africa. “Italy has sent men, material, tanks and planes in readiness to farce any eventuality,” the paper adds. The Cairo communique states that British patrols in North Africa drew very heavy artillery fire from the enemy. In Abyssinia, the repair of demolitions on the road from Wolchelit to Debarech is progressing. Debtrrech, which is in no-man’s-land on the way to Gondar, and which has been the scene of encounters with the enemy, is now in process of being occupied.
