General Wavell Discusses War Effort LONDON, October 1. During a recent visit to Cairo General Wavell gave an interview to the Press on India’s war effort. India, he said, would shortly have more than 1,000,009 fighting soldiers fully equipped, and war materials of all sorts were being produced in the country. Large-scale army and R.A.F. manoeuvres were being carried out with the object of testing the north-west frontier defences. With Russia now au ally and Germany moving toward the East. India’s military situation had undergone a marked change, added General Wavell, and the country’s A.R.P. was being brought up to standard.
