The persecution and agony of subjected peoples, in Europe where Hitler’s executioners are doing their utmost to exterminate all individuals and even nations whom they cannot Germanize is revealed in ghastlier detail in the latest messages reaching London. The Czech Deputy-Premier of the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia, the Minister of the Interior and a former Minister have been arrested following on the arrest’of the Premier. There is a belief that the German aim is to break up and completely dismember the protectorate. It is officially announced in Berlin that 58 Czechs were executed in Prague today. It is learned that the arrests in the last few days run into many thousands. Arrests continue in the occupied countries of western Europe. A report today describes how the Germans’ methods of oppress sion and national “absorption” are being used by the Bulgarians in‘north-eastern Greece. Reports from Ankara say that a reign of terror began in Bulgaria itself over the weekend. Arrests and executions followed further acts of sabotage in Sofia and in villages on the Yugoslav frontier. Eight hundred “trouble-makers” were arrested in the port of Varno. ' The Soviet news ‘ agency today states . that Italian warships shelled villages on the Adriatic coast in an attempt to quell the risings in Montenegro. But for sheer brutalization nothing beats the unrelenting merciless persecution of the Slovene population in Yugoslavia. Dr. Krek, Deputy-Premier, disclosed the terrible plight of the Slovenes—a nation of a million and a half which was part of the Yugoslav kingdom.
