R.A.F. Activity In Middle East LONDON, September 30. A daylight raid yesterday on Palermo, in Sicily, is reported in today’s R.A.F. Middle East communique. The aerodrome and seaplane base were attacked and two bombers, six seaplanes, and a flying-boat were severely damaged. This raid followed a successful attack by heavy bombers on Palermo on Sunday night. Direct hits were scored on a power station, causing fires and explosions, as well as on merchant vessels in the harbour and in the dry-dock area. The communique also reports a series of heavy attacks on Bardin by aircraft of the R.A.F., the .South African Air Force, and the Fleet Air Arm. „ On Saturday night harbour installations and works at Rhodes were attacked. One enemy plane was shot down into the sea, and others were so badly damaged that it is unlikely that they returned to their base. Three of the British machines are missing.
