RUMANIAN CHIEF DISAPPOINTED
Reception By Odessa LONDON, October 1. A Russian observer who has arrived in Moscow from Odessa stated that the German and Rumanian losses around Odessa are estimated to have been 100,000 men. General Antonescu, the Rumanian dictator and Commander-In-Chief, twice arrived on the Odessa front with the idea of making a victorious entry into the besieged city. The first occasion was on August 23. He gave orders for the city to lie taken by August 25, but the Rumanians failed to break through and suffered enormous losses.
