Building’ Held Inadequate The inadequacy of the accommodation provided for the Lower Hutt Police Force is the subject of a special report issued by a sub-committee of the Lower Hutt Chamber of Commerce. The report states that the, accommodation consists of two small rooms, one with no healing facilities. There are no lockers, no provision for records, no storage space for lost pro-perty-including many bicycles which occupy the front room and also one of the prison cells—and no adequate sanitary and lavatory service. During private* interviews members of the staff not concerned have to leave th? premises. The report points out that the accommodation is the same as it was 25 years ago, when there were two constables on the staff. There are tow two sergeants and eight constables, who have to carry out the everincreasing police duties for a population of 24,000. Administering the various war measures Iras materially increased the duties of the staff, spec!.illy by way of interviews. ' The chamber decided to bring the matter under the notice of the Minister in charge of Police and to send copies of the report to the meinliers of Parliament for Hutt and Wellington Suburbs, Messrs. Nash and Combs, and also to enlist Hie co-opera-tion of the Lower Hutt City Council in an effort to obtain adequate a.> coniinod.it ion.
