Statement By Fuehrer LONDON, September 12. Appealing for contributions to the Winter Relief Fund, Hitler, iu a written statement instead of his usual broadcast, referred to the success of the German soldiers and their sacrifice of blood, and said that their privations were unprecedented in history. The soldiers were lighting a gigantic' struggle for the existence or non-exist-ence of the German nation and for the maintenance of Europe. The enemy was not human but was composed of ferocious brutes. "May the German home front prove worthy of the soldiers’ heroism,” he added.
